Chateau Leoville Las Cases 1982

by Eugene Bergen
Well, this is the 7th bottle we drank of the Leoville Las Cases 1982. And it just makes me wonder whether we wine afficionados just don't want to face the fact this famous domain simply did not produce a great Las Cases in 1982 despite the mythical vintage. The wine is serious, broad, masculine, has depth and class but it does lack fruit intensity. Its a grand wine while its just not super appealing, its not a love fest. In comparison to the 1986 is for sure is the lesser wine. I would vote the 1986 to be the 1982 as it has everything you look for in a grand seigneur of a top vintage. The 1982 simply isn't that.
